The museum is on the grounds of the Orphan Girl mine, a silver mine in operation 1875-1956.  The mine yard contains the original headframe, hoist house, timber slide and hose house.  More than 50 buildings comprise Hell Roaring Gulch, a reconstructed 1890s mining town with mining and regional history exhibits.  A 75 to 90 minute guided mine tour is offered.
